Reading Traffic Ahead

It's important to make reading traffic ahead of you a habit.  There is a lot of information on the road expressed in driving habits.  Looking ahead and being proactive based on your evaluation of what is happening can help you out on the road.  It will make you safer and reduce your stress.

What Are You Looking For or Paying Attention To?

  • Brake Lights
  • Erratic behavior
  • Driving excessively slow
  • Weaving across the line
  • Turns with no signaling
  • Look at the traffic in front of the vehicles just in front of you

However, you do have to be careful when judging in order to make an aggressive move.  Such as anticipating a person pulling off from a stop sign in a gap.

Or expecting someone pulling up on a yield sign will only yield and not stop.  Lots of accidents happen that way.  I have been close to having them several times when first getting out on the road driving so many miles.

So remember that other people don't drive the way that you do.  Just like they don't think the way that you do.
