Will a Trucking School like Swift take a new student if taking controlled Blood Pressure Meds

by John
(Beaumont,Tx)

I worked offshore for over 20 years,I have a Able Bodied Seaman ticket and a Captain licence, and have to take a Coast Guard DOT Physical every 2 years, took one May of 2016.

I been on Blood Pressure meds for over 15 years. No side effects always good readings.took up weight training and cardio this year and feel great.

The Gulf oilfield took a plummet,wages dropped,etc.etc.

Three times in my maritime career I had to go into my savings.Bottom line fed up with the instability of the oil patch.Looking to get in the trucking industry.

My question here is will a trucking company like swift for instant take a student driver that takes blood pressure medicine?I figure it's the discretion of the company that's doing the hiring.

I tried looking up information on this and could not find any answers,Anybody that has any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Trucking on blood pressure meds.
by: Anonymous

Yes, you can pass a DOT physical while on blood pressure meds.

Shop around for trucking company schools:
FFE (Frozen Food Express)
Contract Freighters (www.cfidrive)
Schneider Bulk might pay for cdl school if you want tankers.

Good money in tankers and Beaumont is a good area for dozens of tanker companies in the future after gaining experience with Schneider Bulk.

Husband works for Swift
by: Anonymous

Hi...my husband has worked for Swift for 10 years. He is now an O/O and works a dedicated route, but I will warn you that as a company driver for Swift and being new, you will barely make anything the first year.

They do allow you to be on BP medications. They provide a list of meds you aren't able to be on...they are pretty obvious ones.

As a company, I dont have a lot of good things to say because they dont advocate for their employees and if you dont mind knowing you are replaceable at literally any minute, then you will be fine.

Just keep your nose clean...keep your accidents to nonpreventable...stay drug free...and be on time for deliveries and you will be fine.

Just dont expect to make much money until you become an owner operator down the road.
