what salary can I expect in my first year?

I am about to change careers, and have already paid tuition at a driving school but am starting to worry about how much I will make.
After reading some posts I see anywhere from 25,000 to 35,000. Would this be before taxes? I really want to give it a shot but I don't want to take a pay cut either. I could use an honest opinion.
