setting brakes while truck is moving

I have been driving 5 years. My boss sometimes teams with me and I hate his driving. The one thing he does that I would never do is set my tractor brakes while the truck is in motion before coming to a complete stop.

Since this is the truck I drive I complain about it because I don't want down time due to mechanical failure as a result of this. My question is will this practice damage the truck?
