Looking to truck but getting resistance from folks

Hi my name is Matt I'm 20 and from a small town in southern Illinois. Both my dad and brother are truck drivers. I have always loved truck driving and big rigs and just grew up around them.

My dad, brother and my mom do not want me to become a trucker because they said that trucking ruined my brothers life, but the way I look at it is that he allowed it to ruin his life.

Was wondering if anyone out there could give me any type of advice on what to do.

He said that when he got into trucking, after that he never had any friends, got way to over weight, always depressed. but i think the reason why he let it was because he didn't really try to have a life outside of trucking. But, I think alot has changed since then for truckers to atleast attempt to have good lives while on the road with all the new technology we have today.

I think it's a terrible profession to get into and only those that want to be away from their families should do it.
