Looking for a career change at 56 years of age

by Scot Gordon
(Bethlehem, Pa)

Hello

I am turning 56 in a few months and am looking for a career change. I would be interested in paying for my CDL license then finding a trucking job that is local. I am just wondering if 56 is to old to start in trucking? I am in great physical shape, no moving violations and no accidents. I love to d I've and trucking alwa interested me.

Thank you for your time.

Scot

Too old?? NEW
by: Jodi Thompson

Scot, age is an attitude. My husband drove OTR for over 25 years . He started when he was 50. We had just moved down from Alaska and felt like we were starting over. He had been a musician and owned a teaching studio. Eventually we drove team and it was a great life. I think the most important thing is to stay in shape physically. Eat right and exercise. Good luck to you!! Jodi

56 in PA NEW
by: Anonymous

Trucking is a really good second career. You have enough working years left to earn another pension.
One of the best jobs in PA is Old Dominion Freight Lines. This company does hire new cdl grads and the best division is "line haul" division. In line haul, you just run terminal to terminal and drop & hook then return home.
Not too long ago, a few months, Old Dominion hired 14 new drivers from the same cdl class.
