Is a hanging light (the indicator light), on a reefer a D.O.T. violation?

I drive as a local driver. Through out the state of Colorado. Our fleet is serviced by a 2nd party company. The light on the front of the reefer. The one that tells you it is running, after I left the yard it came off.
I looked at it and realized it was rigged to look fixed. I wrote it up on my DVIR. I am just hoping I don't get blamed. or suspended for it.
