Iis it illegal for the trucking company to deduct fuel costs from someone if they're driving the companies truck?

What would be the best steps to take to get crappy company to pay right amount?

So my husband just worked for a company for the past 3 & 1/2 weeks and they paid him a total of $850 and he drove 6400 miles (which doesn't include the dead-head miles).

They deducted all the fuel costs from his checks and he's driving the companies truck! Is there anything we can do to get them to pay him the correct amount? I don't know if this is illegal or not, but it sure seems like it would be!

I mean we are really in a very scary situation now and may lose our house over all this! He went from making close to $900 a week to barely even close to $300 a week! And I quit my job because he was under the impression that he would be bringing home well over $1000 a week.

They said he's owed another "check" this Fri and were planning on having a little pow-wow with them then, but I would love to get y'alls opinions and advice to prepare for the talk.

I am utterly shocked that a company can do something like this to someone with kids and all, and Im shocked that they even WOULD do this to someone without feeling extremely guilty and bad about themselves.

How is someone supposed to survive off of that amount now a days?!?! Like my husband said, he could probably make more than that delivering pizzas or something!

Plus like the pays not bad enough, they even charged him for the repairs and didn't pay him a dime when their truck broke down, AND they let him sit on the side of the highway for 3 days!

I'm a really nice person but it's times like these that people wish they didn't know me, cuz I'm gonna try with all I have to make them give him what he's owed. After spending that many hours on the road for them and getting basically nothing for it, except a slap in the face, will make anyone angry!

He drove through 19 states and delivered load after load for a pile of crap!! Any suggestions and/or info will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Some companies deduct fuel costs if some ones are driving the companies truck. In my opinion that is not illegal. The company has a right to deduct fuel costs for someone who uses companies truck. every one has a right to charge profit for his services.

Is he leasing the truck
by: Hervy

Hate you guys are going through stressful times. Sounds like he is leasing the truck. If so, the contract should state the details.

If he is leasing then what you are experiencing is not that uncommon.

If he is not leasing, then I would contact dept. of labor and a lawyer for advice if I were you.

Let us know how this turns out.
