Driving south to NC without going through mountains?

This might be a silly question, but my husband and I are traveling from Erie, PA to High Point, NC and we're driving with a 5th wheel travel trailer and are trying to avoid as much of the mountains as possible, without being unreasonable.

Looking on Google Maps terrain, it looks like 79 to the turnpike then down 81 might be the best. Any thoughts?
