burning up the phone lines...

Hello ladies!

My hubby started a new job last week, and now the area he's in has almost no cell service. I'm spoiled for talking with him almost daily - and our girls too! I've only been able to hear from him twice in the last week.

How often do you ladies talk to your hubbies when they're on the road?

everyday NEW
by: Anonymous

I usually talk to him everyday when the cell service allows. Sometimes more than once a day. But the conversations are short and almost always intrupted. Him talking about some other trucker or something a car did to him on the highway and me trying to cram in what has happened at home.

GLAD IM NOT ALONE NEW
by: AMBER

OMG SO IM A TRUCKER WIFE AND WE'RE NEWLYWEDS SO I'TS SO HARD ON BOTH OF US. HE HATES BEING AWAY AND I CRY WHENEVER HE LEAVES. I USED TO GO WITH HIM BUT I JUST LANDED A JOB SO I'M FORCED TO STAY HOME NOW. MY HUSBAND AND I TEXT EACHOTHER AS SOON AS THE FIRST PERSON GETS UP! THEN I CALL AFTER WORK, THEN WE TEXT A LITTLE MORE THEN HE CALLS BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP. I WOULD DIE IF MORE THAN 4 HOURS PASSED WITHOUT ME HEARING FROM HIM.

Canadian phone providers NEW
by: Shannon

Thanks for your comment! I wish we had awesome cell phone plans like you guys do in the States. We have fewer providers up here in Canada, and we are currently in a 3yr contract with one, and in order to switch to the other that has service there, it will mean buying out the remaining 2 years... ugh! Hubby might see about getting a pay as you go for now, we're not sure.

I just wondered if everyone else likes to talk with hubby as much as we do when they're on the road :)

Dailyish NEW
by: Sue in Illinois

My husband drives in the midwest and tries to call daily, however, there are some days when he just sends a text because he's tired. Either method is fine with me...I just want to know he's okay.

The company he drives for has a strict no talking while driving policy (even with a bluetooth)which really restricts his time on the phone. Of course, I'd prefer he concentrate on the road rather than a conversation.

Being a trucker's wife/girlfriend is not an easy life. We have to put up with a lot and being out of communication can add even more stress to the situation.

Fortunately, Verizon has great coverage in the midwest and we haven't had any blackouts in service. Even though I try to remember that "no news is good news", I can't imagine being completely out of contact for several days in a row. I have the utmost respect and admiration for those of you who have to deal with this type of separation.

Best wishes!

Sue

depends NEW

my trucker drives California to southern states every week. We talk everyday but cell service within in the states especially Verizon is great. Some states like in mountain areas are shaky, but he just waits till he goes through them and then calls back. Of course backwoods are terrible for reception and a bit annoying...

call your cell service company and ask them about areas that they service. They usually have mapping that shows their coverage areas. If you are not satisfied research other cell companies with better coverage. You might get better results.
