After 5 years off of the road, you will have to go back to trucking school. Definitely after 20 you will have to go back to trucking school.

I have been out since 04 and wanted to get back into driving every place I checked says no with out at least 1 year recent driving experience with in the last three years. I have been an o/o company driver local/otr 48 /Canada hauled every type of trailer/loads there is to pull. doesn't mean a thing to these companies.

A student has a better chance than I do is what I was told by 1 major carrier. was told that if I want back in I would have to go back to school work for some company for 1 year like a newbie then I could get hired on and this was to an owner op really.

The only way to get back is buy your own authority and rig.

Trucking after 20 years off the road

Traci, I hate to tell you but 9 times out of 10 you will have to go back to truck driving school being off the road for that long.

Call around to trucking companies and see what type of feedback you are getting. That will tell you for sure.
