Using Retread Tires
by: Anonymous

Should only be used as a last resort, and only on trailers.

I do it from time to time, but I won't make a practice of it.

The safest way to run is to not use re-caps EVER or to use re-treads EVER... but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do... as in "I can't afford to buy tires and there is a highway blitz inspection coming"

They just buy you time, but should never be compared to real tires... just as a third-party logistics company should only be used as a last resort if you don't have any loads coming from your DIRECT customers.

... It's kind of like.. .duct tape on an air line

That's my opinion.

I'm sure there are plenty of guys that use re-treads, re-caps and third-party brokers, but they aren't getting rich and they aren't conducting themselves as businessmen in the long run

One can only hope that some broke-ass owner-operator doesn't try to fly a re-tread on his steer axle
