IT IS WHAT IT IS

LONG STORY SHORT, I MADE A MISTAKE IN 2004 THAT WILL HAUNT ME FOREVER. I GOT CAUGHT WITH WEED IN MY CAR THAT WAS MINE AND I TOOK FULL RESPONSIBILITY. I LEARNED MY LESSON WHEN I GOT LUCKY AND THEY GAVE ME PROBATION.

DURING THAT PROBATION I WAS DOING GOOD, CHANGED MY CAREER AND STAY CLEANED , THEN I WAS AT THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME AND I GOT CAUGHT UP WITH THE MIX UP. I COULD OF TAKEN IT ALL THE WAY TO TRAIL AND WON BUT I THOUGHT WHO WAS GONNA BELIEVE ME THAT GOT CAUGHT ONCE AND DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. THEY WERE GONNA SEE THAT AND BLAME ME ANYWAY. THEY DIDN'T HAVE NOTHING ON ME BUT I HAD A RECORD ALREADY SO THAT IS ALL THEY LOOK AT.

THIS GOVERNMENT SYSTEM IS ALL MESSED UP AND IT IS WHAT IT IS. THEY SAY TAKE THE PLEA IF NOT THEY GIVE YOU 20 TO LIFE. OF COURSE YOUR NOT GONNA TAKE THAT CHANCE SO YOU PLEA. THAT'S WHAT I DID.

DID 3 YRS IN PRISON AND I JUST GOT OUT RECENTLY, ITS BEEN 2 WEEKS AND JOB SEARCHING IS ROUGH. I GOT CALL BACKS AND THE ONE THING IS THAT I HAD A FELONY AND THEY WERE SORRY.

I SAY NO THE GOVERNMENT IS SORRY YOUR NOT.

Recovering from mistakes and criminal records
by: Hervy

John don't let it get ya down man. I know it's easier for me to say than it is for you to endure but basically like you said, it is what it is. Soooo man of us make mistakes and it often lingers on but time and what we learn and do after does matter and things will gradually get better with the right steps.

Nick gave you some good advice.

If you can, also take some classes that basically amount to self improvement in some way or volunteer to help educate youth or Men or someone from what you learned if that is your cup of tea.

Anything that would show how you are giving back and if it shows that it partially reflects what you have learned from past mistakes that's even better.

Even if you just write a little blog or publish a paper on an existing website about your journey and direct it to the youth in hopes to provide some guidance for them is good.

Other than that, keep your head up and just keep knocking on doors man.

Whether you pursue trucking or have to pursue other opportunities in the meantime....remember...

keep your head up and keep knocking on doors.

Best wishes, Keep us posted on your progress.

Howdy from San Antonio

John I know how you feel. I made a lot of stupid decisions when I was younger and they follow me to this day. Unfortunately the government does believe in people changing for the better and what you did 10 years ago or 1 year ago will follow you for the rest of your life. There is however a loop hole. Its gonna cost ya but its one of the only ways. Its called expungment and it will take your offenses off your background so employers can not find it. Law will still have it on record of course in case of a reaccuring charge comes up so they can nail you to the cross though. You have to hire a lawyer, they take it to court and if the judge says yeah or nah is a gamble in its own. But you may want to look into it and see what a lawyer has to say. May be hard cause its fresh but then again I'm no lawyer. Hope the best for you buddy and just keep your nose clean and good things will come.
