GraveDigger

(CT, USA)

I work at a cemetery as the "Digger". I operate the backhoe and do grounds maintenance. I've been there over 5 years and its starting to get to me. Depression over all this death business. Oh yeah, I'm also a crematory operator which is gross in itself.

Lately I'm filled with anxiety over what to do with my life. Where can I go at 53 and get hired? Where can I work and feel useful and not depressed?

Hence my interest in Truck Driving. I feel it could be a fulfilling chapter in my life. But where to go for training? Which company will offer the best opportunities?

I would appreciate all advice for me to get started training and working. I'm very serious about this but don't know the best choice to make.

Please help the Digger into the trucking world....
Thanx.....Don

Hi Don NEW

I understand what you are going through. I am sorry you are having feelings of depression. I just want you to know that there is help and I hope you choose to take care of yourself first before entering into a field that is high pressure, stressful, and has a high percentage of individuals who end up becoming depressed.

Take steps in getting mentally healthy and then move into your new venture of truck driving. If your employer has medical benefits and pays for workers compensation you can file a claim and be sent to a doctor who can diagnose and treat you while you receive pay. Workers compensation is a federal law that employers must have for employees unless you are an independent contractor. Utilize this while you have it.

Yes there is a future for you in truck driving at your age. I have seen guys in their 60's and 70's still driving!!! So go for your dreams but first of all take care of you or you cannot fulfill those dreams!! GOOD LUCK!
