Driving too close ticket causes problems

Never thought this would happen..but after 18 years my spouses first "serious" traffic violation of following to close (not an accident) might as well be a felony conviction since companies won't hire him with one traffic conviction.
Small town, no way to even attempt a lesser charge. Only option is no contest and no points which amounts to conviction of a traffic charge in line with wreckless driving, accident with injury, erratic driving..etc...
Yeah..he has a supposed one more chance in the eyes of the FMCSA but in the eyes of trucking companies he is a risk for the next 3 years. Unreal
