Driving/Hydrocodone NEW
by: TMAC

I broke my back in 2002 and have had chronic back pain ever since. I take the maximum amount of hydrocodone allowed by government. It is perfectly legal to operate a commercial vehicle as long as you take them as prescribed. My company and DOT doctor both know I take them. When you take a drug screen, just make sure you don't have more in your system than prescribed.

Pain meds NEW
by: Anonymous

I've been driving truck now for 3 years. I recently hurt my back ad neck, that came to be operated on. They gave me a pain management doctor to help me with my meds So I can function with out much pain. Like I said, it's been 3 years now and I'm ready to go back to what I love (Driving Truck). Now my question is will any truck company give me that chance to work for them. Without being turned down ?

Lesson FOR ALL TO LIVE BY NEW
by: Anonymous

You can take narcotics and still drive a commercial motor vehicle. Your doctor must advise you that the medication you take should not adversely effect you or cause problems performing a safety sensitive function while taking the medication. You DO NOT have to have a Letter stating this, HOWEVER.... It makes your life easier if you do. This way when you take your Fed Drug test and the medical examiner calls you and asks about the morphine or roxi or whatever you take you can explain you have a letter and simply fax it to the doctor for a Negative drug screen. Furthermore, YOU ALL MUST BE AWARE OF THE NEXT THING.... DO NOT TELL YOUR COMPANY YOUR ON THE MEDICINE BECAUSE THEY WILL DISCRIMINATE ON YOUR HANDICAP!!! You are in no way to authorize the company to have a COPY OF YOUR MEDICAL LONG FORM. THIS IS YOUR PRIVATE MEDICAL INFO TECHNICALLY LABELED BY CONGRESS AS CLASSIFIED PER THE HIPPA ACT AND NO PERSON IS AUTHORIZED OR TRAINED IN A TRUCKING COMPANY TO HAVE SECRET DATA RELEASED AND ON FILE FROM HIPPA. trust me on this! I am a CEO of multiple trucking companies. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, sign a form stating that you authorize the doctor to give your TOP SECRET HIPPA PROTECTED HEALTH LONG FORM MEDICAL INFORMATION TO THE TRUCKING COMPANY! EVEN IF THE COMPANY SAYS THEY WILL NOT HIRE YOU IF YOU DONT GIVE THEM THE LONG FORM BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THEY MUST HAVE IT ON FILE. THIS IS A LIE. LET THE RECORED BE KNOWN THAT ALL THE COMPANY NEEDS ON FILE IS A COPY OF YOUR "MEDICAL CERTIFICATE" STATING YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS AND DOB, ETC AND HOW LONG YOUR QUALIFIED UNDER THAT CERTIFICATE... This is all you need to provide a company. if you sign anything else your a fool. If the company asks you to sign something else, SUE THEM FROM HERE TO KINGDOM COME! Do not let a company walk over your Civil Rights and your employment rights. Make certain you get a conditional letter of employment, or an offer for employment stating all of your benefits and wages and time on and off etc pending a passing dot drug test and dot MEDICAL CERTIFICATE. THIS WAY WHEN THE COMPANY REFUSES TO CONTINUE THE HIRE PROCESS BASED ON YOU NOT PROVIDING THE COMPANY WITH YOUR PROTECTED MEDICAL LONG FORM YOU CAN SUE THEM FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYMENT AND BREACHING YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS, AND ALSO BREAKING FEDERAL GUIDELINES OF VIOLATING YOUR HIPPA RIGHTS. I TELL YOU ALL THIS THROUGH DECADES OF EXPERIENCE IN ORDER TO ALLOW ALL WHO DESIRE TO BE ABLE TO LIVE A GOOD QUALITY LIFE AND WORK AND PROVIDE FOR ONES FAMILY AND WORK BY THE SWEAT OF YOUR BROW TO BE ABLE TO DO IT AND DO IT IN PEACE AND NOT SUFFER IN PAIN BECAUSE YOUR ATTEMPTING TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR FAMILY. THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO LEARN THAT DOCTORS AND COMPANIES ARE NOT THE RULERS OF THIS WORLD AND JUST BECAUSE THEY GET A GOOD QUALITY LIFE AND THE REST OF THE WORLD WHO WORKS THEIR ASSES OFF AND THEIR BODIES TAKE A TOLL DAY IN AND DAY OUT AND YOUR FORCED TO BE A SLAVE IN PAIN OR LIVE ON DISABILITY... no no no its time they learn it will not be this way or all hell will break loose. If you have questions contact me an ex CEO at bakkenlogisticsinc@yahoo.com

Driving on narcotic pain meds NEW
by: Dan

Yes you can drive while prescribed a narcotic . Per DOT regs ....as long as you have a letter from the prescribing doctor stating it will not affect your driving . This does not mean ANY medical examiner will sign off on it and secondly youll never find ANY reputable carrier to hire you given their liability if you were in an accident .

Dot Drug Test
by: Hervy

You can get your medical card taking most meds.

The question is will a company hire you on those meds. Only the company knows that.

Obviously hard meds (usually narcotics) that will have an impact on your state of mind or ability to perform should not be taken while you are operating a vehicle so if you have to take those you may not get hired.

If you are drug tested and those are found. I don't see how you can get in trouble if they are listed as prescribed medication. However you can still get a ticket for driving under the influence so if you are on strong meds you might want to think twice about becoming a trucker.

Good luck to you.

Pain meds while driving
by: Jimmy

Hi new driver. I'll try to give you some insight. Drug tests are looking for illegal drugs in your system. When you take the drug test, you have to put down what, if any, medications you are taking. ( Don't fudge on that question ). Some meds are allowed. It depends on wheather or not it would hamper your driving abilities. If you were taking morphine, that would be a no/no. I'm sure there is a list of acceptable meds that are allowed.

My advice, take the test, state what meds you use, and the lab will either yay it or nay it. good luck. Jimmy
