3/3/12. Hit and run by white semi rig on I69

by Susie
(Carmel,in)

I am trying to find out if there is any way possible to search for a semi that struck me while I was stopped in the median on I69 south of Muncie, In.

He was losing control of the rig on an icy road and the back end slammed into the back of my car. Needless to say he did not stop.

I know it was a white cab and white trailer. Do the same trucks drive the same routes regularly?
Great informative website!

Thanks for any help....I posted this once but can't find it !

Thanks for your input Patrick. The truck that struck me had begun to lose control of his truck when he slid off the road. There was a lot of traffic on the road that night and the police officer that observed the accident said he could tell the truck was going too fast for the conditions. When he did hit us he had to correct the truck back into the lane so I am pretty sure he knew he hit something. Some other truck drivers have mentioned that maybe he was hauling something illegal or was on a suspended license. Most of the drivers that have responded to me have been very nice and stated that it is not a common thing at all for a driver to not stop. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. We still do not know who hit us. A legal company did have their people try to go back to truck stops and look at video tapes to try and see if the driver stopped but so far nothing has been found.

something is fishy NEW

Maybe he was loosing control due to you being on the median, alot of states will cite you for using the section, then again maybe you were broke down or maybe you just needed to stop, maybe he had no idea he hit you. { I had a lady hit me in traffic dead stop traffic and I had 9000 gallons of gasoline on, someone had to honk and get my attention, they pointed to the rear and I looked and was blown away, this ladys car was a oldsmobile cutlass and the front end of that car was so smashed up I was having a hard time believing I was the one she hit, I was a good 20 feet frome her cause I began to move with the traffic when someone got my attention, I did not feel a thing} I really don't hear of truckers doing something like that, Its not like they are driving class A on A 14601 -suspended- so I am not blaming but just like the details there is a lot more to this story. Just my opinion. thanks.

Thank you so much for your words of advice. I will try the local television as a next idea. There was white paint left on the black car we were struck in but I don't know how that may have damaged the trailer.

Finding a truck from a hit and run NEW
by: Hervy

Hi Susie,

Sorry for your loss, glad you are ok.

You don't really have a lot of info to go on. So many white truck and trailers.

There are companies that go the same place at the same time put not many. If you remember whether the truck had a sleeper in the back or just the cab, that could be a hint. If it was just a cab, then it more than likely was not over the road driver.

More than likely there was little damage to the trailer if just the tail end of the trailer hit.

I would go to your local TV station and tell them what happened, they would be happy to talk about a run a way truck. (that probably how they would categorize it, not too far from the truth in this case though)

Tell them you are seeking any eyewitnesses to the incident at the place, time and date it occurred. Tell them you just want the name of the trucking company and any other information they could remember.

I gather you have talked to an attorney. If not do so and see what he/she will say. Might not be enough for them to want to take the time to do it without up front money.

Best of luck
