I'm thinking about buying a 18 wheeler and paying trucker to drive for me through a trucking co. What are the pros and cons?

letting someone drive the truck is tricky

Well, it's rough be an owner operator as it is G. Not that it is impossible to make it and not that there isn't plenty of money to be made.

If you are leased on with the right trucking company or you have direct contracts that pay enough profit to survive problems such as slow freight and breakdowns you may survive. That is...

If you also have the right driver who will take care of your truck as it is his/her own. Also that person would need to have good enough work ethic to do the job as if as if it was his/her own business.

That's hard to find in most cases. I think there may be some people here on this site that could work though. At least they are convincing in a few paragraphs.

So as you can see, there are some serious variables to consider. The best candidate to do what you are talking about would have plenty of resources for back up to give time to make sure a good quality truck is leased to a good company with a good driver.

Also, consider not just hauling regular freight but something specialized where the profit margin is higher.

Good luck, let us know how it ends up.
