A hard question to answer.
by: Jimmy

A few years ago, your question could be answered easily. That was before the economic meltdown. Things are way different today. Just what is trucking, anyway? Plain and simple, it is transportation. So, if the economy slows down, manufacturing slows down, then transportation slows down. Trucking is a very cuthroat business. Almost all contracts are verbal and can be changed whenever a competitor will do it for less.

Any trucking company wants to be prepared to handle any business that comes its way. Any business wants to plan their immediate future, but that's very hard to do. Trucking companies want to plan on how many trucks to buy/sell, how many drivers to hire etc.

So, to answer your question, a recruiter can only estimate your earnings. IF, everything falls into place, (freight volume, miles dispatched, customers staying loyal, drivers not quitting/wrecking equipment,) yeah you can make $40 grand a year. I'm hearing a lot of drivers averaging around $400-$600 a week gross.

A family guy with rent, kids to feed plus road expenses will have a hard time making it. A single guy that puts his stuff in storage and lives in the truck and manages his money wisely will be OK. There are no "best" companies to get paid more. Jimmy
