I'am recovering from surgery and my CDL physical is coming up in June I will not be released to go back to work until July ?

My physical is due to be renewed 6-26-13 But I will not be released from my surgeon that did the surgery on my neck until 7-1-13 What happens if I am late renewing my physical during that time period?

I don't think you're required to have a current DOT physical to obtain or hold a CDL. You ARE required to have a current DOT physical if you are operating a commercial vehicle that falls under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration or FMCSA.

Renewing Medical Card

If I were you I would try to eat right, do all of the things needed to try and heal as quickly as possible...because I would ask the Dr. to change the release date prior to the medical card expiring.

Meanwhile see about getting an extension or something for your state department. Tell them about your situation and see what happens.

If that doesn't go through in the desired way, I think what will happen is they will take the CDL priviledges away until you renew.
