how to get broadband internet on the road

I have been a trucker before and used the wi-fi hotspot or idle aire connection to get on the internet, but I would like to use my home internet connection or phone service. can i do that? and how? I have wild blue and mci respectively. I have seen the adverts for like verizon, etc. with the little flash drive looking thing to stick in usb port for laptop is that what I need? and through who and how much? Appreciate anything anyone can tell me.. Linda
