Backing Up With Tandems Forward vs Back
by: The Crazy Trucker

Yes, where the tandems are located does affect how the truck steers.

You will be able to adjust quicker with axles slide toward the front of the trailer.

But you must be careful because the tail of the trailer swings much more. If you are backing into a parking space for instance, make sure the outside tail of the trailer doesn't snag the truck on the back side.

The best position to get used to in most normal situations is in halfway or at the 48ft mark.

Practice practice practice. When you practice make a conscious mental note of where the tandems are located.
