company had fake registration and i got stuck with ticket can i sue to recoup monies?

On August 5th 2015 I got pulled into a state of Illinois DOT weigh station outside of Chicago. The company paid the overweight ticket, but there registration was fake. So I was stuck with the ticket. Can I sue the company for being dishonest?
