concerned about the tools to have when going over the road
by: SHORTCUT

I agree with the other comments about the tools, however, my concern is your age. I don't know if the driving school mentioned it, but I think that most companies want drivers to be at least 21. I may be wrong, maybe you can call some of the companies and just ask them what their min. age requirements are.

Hope that I don't discourage you, I just don't want to see you spend a lot of money on school if you are going to have a hard time getting hired on with a company! Good luck to you. Any other seasoned drivers know the age requirements? Maybe you can help.

Will he be driving or repairing the truck?
by: Jimmy

Yes, you need some basic tools at the very least. Crescent wrenches, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8 as well as some metric sizes plus screw drivers, pliers, a good pocket knife, electricians tape and duct tape and some bungie cords (6-8).

Filter wrench is a good idea also. Sometimes, you have a minor problem and it's easier to fix it yourself than wait for a mechanic to come out, or wait at a shop for your turn.

A company driver should be able to replace a headlight/mudflap/tighten a mirror bracket etc. An O/O should be able to change his own oil, adjust his clutch, make air line repairs etc. Good luck, Jimmy

Craftsman Tools
by: Anonymous

Get yourself a good starter set of tools like the 100- 200 piece set with the suitcase style plastic case from Craftsman then add the other stuff you may need like a strap type filter wrench, hammers, vice grips, volt meter, wire cutters, ect.
