i have a 7 yr old possession of a controlled substance and i'm wondering will this prevent me from becoming a truck driver?

yes it could with some companies, and some will look at how old it is. if you drive independent usually the owner wants to see the driving records. most big companies want justice reports and drugs will hold you back most definitely it is considered a high risk.

A friend of a friend of a friend is what you will have more luck at driving independent if they refer you? don't quit your job until you find out for sure is a suggestion. good luck
