Felonies

If u have a recent felon why do the trucking companies say u have to wait for about 5-10 years before they want to hire u and u want to get into the business bad but if u had to wait that long u don't want to do it no more

Felony-drug conviction
by: Todd Johnson

Dude from Cali, its a lot of companies on the west coast that hire felons like Schneider and Midwest continental in the Midwest. For both it said a person will be considered, if that helps.

Felony conviction also
by: Todd Johnson

I went to CDL school in 2005 and graduated then got arrested on a five year old warrant. Since then I've been trying to find a company that would hire me. But with me being on probation, and having a felony drug conviction, the instructor at the I attended said my chances would be slim.

But the crazy trucker gave me Carolina Cargo and Midwest Continental, but you need two years for Midwest Continental and Carolina Cargo isn't hiring. Do you know of any other company that will hire me? I'm like some of the other drivers, just trying to be a positive citizen. Where is the love America, get a brother a second chance, thank you.

fairness
by: jerome

hello my name is Jerome. i got convicted for accessory after the fact of a robbery. it was in 1996. i did 2yrs and got out in 1998. since then i went to trucking school in 99 and have been driving off and on every since. i got my hazmat endorsement 2yrs ago. to make a long story short, i got laid off this past dec.

i was working for a beer company. since then i have been out of work. i keep getting turned down because of my past. i was 19 when i made a mistake and i am 33 now. i don't understand how what i did 14yrs ago can overshadow what i have accomplish since i have been out. i have 3yrs otr and 2 of those yrs were straight. like i said earlier, i have my hazmat and if the federal gov don't feel i am a threat why cant i be given a fair chance. every company i have worked for has given a satisfactory report.

i could go back but i am trying to put myself in a better position to support my family. i collected cash money for the beer company and was never a penny short. i sometimes wonder will the sentence ever be served!

why trucking companies are hesitant about felonies on your record
by: the crazy trucker

What's happening man,

well, that is because being a truck driver is a lot of responsibility.

I don't know what your felony is for but it can't be but so minor or it wouldn't be a felony. Remember, these people don't know you as a person. That record is what they use to judge you. If you look at it from their perspective it makes sense.

Take me for instance in the last month the largest check I collected from a customer was almost for 7,000 dollars. I have been given the code to gates when everybody else at the company was gone home. I was left in a business in the back with all the merchandise with the only other employee in the front. And the scenarios go on.

So you see they must be selective or they will be in trouble if someone they hire with a screwed up record commits a crime at one of their customers.

I hate this is effecting you and I hope you have learned not to do whatever got you the felony. It would be a great help for you to try and tell other peers how getting the felony if effecting so negatively so they might learn from your mistake.

Don't give up, keep your head up, I don't know how many companies you tried because it seems that someone would give you a shot with only 1 felony after about 5 years.

In any case, don't let that cause you to throw in the towel. Get your education and continue to try to get into trucking.

Also, if trucking doesn't work out check out other very rewarding careers that may be less strict.

Hey stay in touch man,
good luck
Hervy
