Does shifting gears harm your knees

I was wondering about using the clutch. Some say it's a pretty intense thing that wears on the left leg. What is your opinion of this?

Thanks,

Shifting gears didn't damage my knees but....
by: Hervy

I imagine if you have weak joints or poor nutrition it could be bothersome. I found after getting used to it, it just made that leg stronger.

Having said that, I imagine that it you did it long enough and consistent enough I could see it wearing on your joint.

For me...

There was some noticeable sensations in the left knee for a little while but then it went away. Guess it was from new level of use.

However, I must say, I only drove a manual shift for about 8 years. The rest of the time was automatics.

Also, after getting into my own truck I didn't use the clutch that much for shifting. Just for taking off and stopping. I floated the gears. Something you will likely learn to do with experience.

You probably also end up driving an automatic or can go to a company with automatics if you find that your knees start bothering you.
