Best route from Reno NV to Dunsmuir Ca in truck?

I'm not a new driver but I am going down a hwy I have never gone down before and want advice. Go the long way around or go for it. I will be leaving Reno for dunsmuir ca. 395 to susanville then 89 or 36 to 5. Like I said new roads for me or should. Go towards Sacramento the long way around. Any advice will be appreciated

At this time of year both routes are fine, pretty country through the Susanville route, more conveniences on the I-5 and more lanes open for travel, you won't get stuck behind a slow moving RV or tractor trailer.
