It's 2 a.m. You're on the shoulder of I-40 with the hazards on, steam rolling out from under the hood, and a $600 tow truck on the way. You miss the delivery appointment. The shop calls the next day: turbo's gone, metal through the system, $4,500 and three days in the bay.
Here's the part nobody told you: your oil knew. Weeks ago.
Your oil keeps a diary
Every mile you run, your engine leaves evidence in the oil — microscopic metal particles that say exactly which part is wearing out:
- Iron and chromium climbing → your cylinders and rings are wearing
- Copper and lead together → your bearings are going
- Aluminum spiking → pistons or turbo wear
- Coolant in the oil → the silent killer; it strips the protection right out of the oil and takes the engine with it
- Fuel dilution → usually a failing injector, and if you ignore it, you're buying bearings next
A lab can read all of this from a small sample. One sample costs less than one steer tire.
Reading the past vs. predicting the future
Here's where it gets interesting. A regular oil analysis tells you what's already happened. Predictive analysis — this is the AI part — watches the trend across samples and tells you what's coming.
Not "your turbo is dead." More like: "your turbo is trending toward failure — you've probably got about two months. Schedule it in the shop on your terms, or meet it on the shoulder of I-40 on its terms."
A $50 test against a $15,000 in-frame. That's not a hard decision.
The honest catch — and why it's actually good for you
I'll be straight with you: buying samples one at a time as a one-truck owner-operator doesn't pencil out. The smart pricing — 10 samples for $500 with free shipping — only works when all 10 go in together. You can't do that with one truck on different schedules.
So this isn't really built for you to buy directly. It's built for your shop.
And that's the play. The shop runs the samples across its customers' trucks, eats the $50, and the analysis tells them which trucks need work before the breakdown. They make their money on the repairs the oil uncovers — the injector job, the bearing roll, the turbo replacement scheduled in the bay instead of on a hook.
You get the early warning. They get the ticket. Everybody wins except the tow truck driver.
Here's what I need from you
The company behind this technology wants to put it in independent shops. Not the big franchises where nobody can make a decision. The real shops. The ones with a few bays and an owner who answers the phone.
Would you use this if your shop offered it? Yes or no — and tell us which shop you run out of.
If enough drivers say yes, those shops get a visit. And next time you're in for service, ask them about it yourself. Drivers asking is what moves shops.
🌡️ Driver poll: take the temperature
If your shop offered a $50 oil test that predicts breakdowns weeks before they happen — would you try it? Vote in the poll, then see the live results.
Voted YES? Get it at your shop 👇
Name your shop below and we’ll bring the poll results to the shops drivers name most — strength in numbers.
