Where can I get a CB Radio for at home?

by Crazy Kitty

Ok so I'm still new to this trucker stuff since my new boyfriend is a truck driver. He told me you can get a CB radio called a (base station?) that I can have at home to talk to the truck drivers that go by the house. He even said there are ones that you can have that you can talk to people anywhere in the USA no matter where I live.Do you need special permit or training ect. for any of those kinds of CB radios? I love talking on the CB and it would pass the time while he is away. I know I seen some at a truck stop but now that I'm not on the road right now with my boyfriend where can I get one and what would it cost? I checked one store I was at last night (Best Buy) but they had none. I don't get out much so I can't drive around to look so I'd love it if yall had some info 4 me :)....

WHOA. Buying a CB tips
by: Nick V

WHOA horsey. Check craigslist before you go out and buy something brand new. They usually have alot of them on there. Just another suggestion. Im sure I dont have to tell you this but if you do find someone on craigslist then meet in a public place that is heavily populated and take a friend with you. LOTS of whack jobs out there these days

There use to be a Petro truck stop on I39 south of Rockford. Can't quite remember the exit #. Get over there and check out their stock. Or you can call them on the phone for info.

They may have a C/B shop also. And keep in mind Radio Shack. Just do some investigating. You'll also need an antenna mounted on your house roof.

Basically, all you do is plug in the base station and hook up the antenna and you are ready to go. A base station is a/c, alternating current, just like your TV set. Let me know what you find out. Figure on about $100-$150 for a base station plus the antenna. If you live in an apartment, you will have a problem hooking up an antenna.

A word of warning. Do not EVER give your real name/address/phone # to anyone over the c/b. There are some nut jobs out there. Just keep it light and fun....Jimmy

Crazy Kitty is missing him.

Hey Gal, yeah, get a base station. I've seen them at truckstops/cb shops. Forget about Best Buy and regular retail electronics stores. What city do you live in? I might be able to direct you to the proper place. You can also use a regular c/b and do the dc to the ac thing.

Check with Radio Shack if you live near one. Make sure you understand about direct current and alternating current. A base station is more powerful than a portable, but if you live right along side the Interstate, a portable will work fine. Just need to convert from dc to ac. Don't be a stranger. Jimmy
