Want to learn all about trucking

by Ted
(Redmond, Oregon)

I am 40 yrs old with a recent bachelors degree, and very little job experience except for construction. I'm thinking about becoming a truck driver for several reasons: the economy, my age and lack of work experience, and the economy. I would like to talk/ask questions to people in the trucking industry who will tell me the truth. I also have a dog who I need to take with me on the road. This probably means that I need my own truck; no problem. I have great credit and if I ultimately decide to go into trucking will stick with it. I need to be confident that I have made the right decision and to do that I need answers.
How is the best way to: 1-choose a school that provides the best training for a students time and money 2-choose a company, who treats their employees right and are pet friendly.

thank you

Are Pets Allowed in A Truck? What are good Companies to Start
by: Jimmy

Hey Ted, Some companies allow pets with a deposit/cleaning fee. A community college with a truck driving forum is the best way to go. Any school should be toured prior to paying your money.

As far as the best company to start with, look at the companies in your area. But also be aware that the current economic slowdown is affecting trucking as well.

A couple companies to start with are Interstate Distributor, Tacoma, Wa, May trucking, Salem, Or, Market Transport, Portland, Or, TWT, Spokane, Wa (a division of System) and Gordon trucking out of Pacific, Wa. Jimmy
