Ask the companies 1st, b4 u waste your time and money by: Anonymous
This is what i did......Its alot of bullshit, but what will you do, and how far will you go for a good job !!!!!
1. If you know someone out of state, that will let you use thier address, and go to that state to get a new license for that state
2. Then you start looking for a good company, then you apply for them
3. Make sure before you waste your time, that the company does training, if so, more than likely you will be locked into that company for 1 yr
4. And stay away from CR England, 3 guys to 1 truck is so wrong, during 8 weeks of training
5. Stick with it, dont get depressed, it will take time....DONT GIVE UP...
Everything I just told you, is what I did, I have a Class a felony on my record, for drug traffic
I have been with my company for 1yr now, and I keep to myself, and do my job, no matter how cool you think someone is dont let them know about your past, it could be the wrong person...
I am on the road for 3 weeks at a time and dont check my email that often, but if you have any question feel free to hit me up, my email is
SOMANYTRIES@YAHOO.COM
GOOD LUCK
5.

Don't Waste your money with Company schools. by: Anonymous
I am a felon. I went to a technical college and got my CDL through state grant funding. The tuition was something like $3000 but I only paid $250 out of pocket. That was to cover things like learners permit, the actual CDL after completing the course and book fees. I
t took me 8 weeks to get my CDL but for $250 how can you beat that? I must admit it was hell to find a job then I met this shiesty owner operator who gave me a shot.
He screwed me on my pay every week for six months until I quit. The thing is I now had some experience and with the school training I was able to get on with a major company (western Express).
I think that about 50% of the companies will hire you if your felony is at least 5 years old.
Good luck.

getting a trucking job with felony convictions by: jonathan
well during my search i have found a lot of companies will hire ex felons if the charges are at least 5 to 7 yrs old! but they wont touch anyone with a drug, sexual, or violent crime, misdemeanor or felony.
Werner 10 yrs, swift 10 yrs, USA trucking will not hire, pam will not hire, us-xpress says they will on their site but they wont, stevens trans wont hire, tmc wont hire, roelh wont hire, Schneider wont hire...all the other ones said they would tho.
i have a lot of pre-hires! don't give up people! and i do have the pre-hires in writing.
i have a 9 yr old burg charge. i know for a fact Carolina cargo will hire you as long as the felony is 3 yrs old

Getting a CDL without a school, but have knowledge by: Somanytries
I did drive from 1995-2000, I stopped for medical reasons, OKAY, 5 yrs went by, I earned myself a felony drug possession charge(marijuana), in 2005.
Ive been working for the same company now since, 2000. I wanted to get back into driving, but its been almost 9 yrs since I've driven a big truck, they tell me I have to go to school again, no refresher course.
So I have been checking around, and I found that you can go to your local DMV, get the cdl book or website that they have to offer, study it... Pay the amount for the written test, pass it, then try to find a tech school, that offers the driving course, take it, and pass it... Then you try to find a local company or a smaller company, that hires, get at least 6 months on the road, before you move on, get hired with the experience you have, and a lot of companies will give you a second chance, a lot of them do not want to invest their money into a known felon, but since you already did, they will work with you.
I hope a lot of companies will give a person with a non violent felony a second chance, if this helps anyone that's great. I wish the best for the people that want to make things right in their life...GOOD LUCK......somanytries@yahoo.com

Felonies by: Jimmy
You absolutely cannot get into Canada with a felony. So when you are searching for companies, and you know up front they run Canada, scratch them off your list. FYI Jimmy

Skip the trucking school. by: Steve1776
You can skip the school and get your training from a trucking company. I have never worked for Schneider, but I know a person who started his driving career with them several years ago and is still with them.
After you finish truck driving school you have to work there a certain amount of time to pay for you school. If you quit too soon you owe them for the school.
I've been driving for 26 years and still like it. If you're single you can't beat it.

Is the truck driving school good or bad? by: Steve1776
Before you pay any money to a trucking school ask them which trucking companies hire their graduates. Then call those companies and ask them if they hire students from that school.

Talk to Trucking Company's Not Trucking Schools by: Anonymous
Another thing don't listen to the trucking schools they just want your money and they are not the ones who hire you. They may tell you "oh yeah you can get hired with a recent felony" take your money and train you and then no company hires you. You need to start finding out now which companies would consider hiring you

Try To Get Pre-Approved from trucking companies by: Anonymous
I have recently began researching trucking because I am about to switch careers so I don't claim to be an expert but from what I have been reading having a felony will pretty much black ball you from most of the major companies.
I agree people deserve second chances however most of the trucking companies are not willing to take that chance especially if it's a recent felony. There is too much at steak for them to take a chance.
I hear some smaller local operations and mom & pop companies may take a shot on you. Before you pay thousands for school and then end up not being able to find a job I would start calling companies now and see what their policy is on previous convictions and find out if they would honeslty hire you.
I dont want to get your spirts down but make sure you have a back-up plan because it will be hard to find a trucking job with that recent felony.
