When The Clock Starts
by: Anonymous

Please be aware that for some companies, the 5- or 7- or 10-year period since your "conviction" may not start on the date your adjudication took place (the date you were pronounced guilty), but the date you satisfied (finished) all your penance (prison, probation, drug rehab, etc.). This can add years to the period of time during which a particular company will not hire you.

Also, some companies may treat "adjudication withheld" the same as an actual adjudication of guilty. Read applications carefully so you don't "lie". If you had adjudication withheld, it may be worth it to talk to a laywer about when you must state that you were "convicted" and if there is any chance of having the record expunged (removed from the accessible record); although in this day and age, and with professional driving now being under the TSA and Homeland Security, I'm not so sure that the record wouldn't be available to trucking companies anyway.
