I am an owner operated and have a 9 month old boy ... We need to travel from El Paso Texas to Chicago Illinois... Would I get fined if he travel in the tractor with my wife and I?

Passenger traveling NEW
by: M Watson

My husband and I owned our own trucking business for over 15 years and we would allow our drivers to take their family. We had to purchase an additional insurance policy to allow passenger coverage to cover our drivers family. You may want to check with your insurance company prior to taking any passengers to see if you need to purchase additional insurance and also the company you are leased to to see what their policy is for passengers. I would also recommend that you have the child safely buckled in a car seat during travel for his safety and car seat laws across the country. Since you are an owner operator you could always have a few seat belts installed in truck to fasten Childs seat in the truck so your wife can also be bucked in at passenger seat. The safety of your family is the concern here. Good Luck and safe travels!
