If you fail a DOT Safety audit they will tell you why and you come up with a plan to comply or correct the issues.

If you fail an inspection and get put out of service, it depends on the violation. If it's over hours on logs you might have to reset.

If it is mechanical you might need road call.

It just depends. Not one single answer.
