New to the truckers wives forum

Hi, I am new to this forum. I am a girlfriend of a trucker. He's been a long haul trucker for about 5 months. He is looking forward to becoming a local driver, but they usually require 6-12 months experience.

I am hoping it doesn't take too long. It's very difficult, but I love him very much. So, I was thinking of joining a blog or forum for support.

Hi Vanessa,
I can say I don't have the problem that you are facing exactly. But I do understand that he is probably very tired when he first comes home. Perhaps a suggestion would be to let him rest for a few hours. Then it would make more sense to be able to spend quality time with you. Then you can say this is my compromise. You can sleep a few hours, but then I expect some quality time from you. Is he the type of person that needs a lot of sleep? If he is, maybe he can get the rest he needs prior to stopping off at your house. I think allowing him a few hours of sleep is a good comprimise.. Yes you do need attention. Make sure you don't except being neglected.
I hope this helps.

Help NEW
by: Vanessa

I have been with my boyfriend for over a year now. Sometimes he will be on the road for weeks and when he is driving through he will stop at the house for the night. But during that night he is too tired and pretty much doesn't want any other contact other than holding hands. I get so frustrated because I want to be touched and I feel like it is personal. That he doesn't want me. I understand he is tired but I also feel like the relationship is solely wrapped around his needs and schedule. Am I reading into this too much? Is he really just too tired? I try to tell him how I feel and he gets all defensive. HELP!!!

yes time is of the essense NEW

The year will be up quickly, but when he has some time under his belt say 5 or so years he will find out there is more money in long haul. If money is not the issue well he will be happy where ever he is driving. Wait and see what's in store first and always communicate that this is a two way street, you must both be in agreement for all life change issues.

God Bless
Good Luck! :)
