A SPEEDING TICKET
by: Dennis Shipman

I used to hold a Virginia CDL. New York is pretty strict on these types of violations. I remember getting pulled over in a 4 wheeler going into Manhattan from Queens with this dime piece I liked a whole lot. She was mighty impressed when the cop said he was not going to bang me out because I had a commercial drivers license... I got real lucky later that evening. . . Anyway, first thing you have to do before you spend $500 to a $1,000 on a mouthpiece is to find out if Virginia even reports to New York. I have gotten tickets in virtually every state in the union; only some report to your "home state," which is the determining factor in whether or not you are assessed "points" on your gold card. Simply ask the clerk in the jurisdiction where you received the violation if they are going to report it to New York. Trust me, these little hole-in-the-wall municipalities only want the money. Not bang you out for points, which will eventually cut into their revenue stream because other drivers will start warning each other about driving through there unless you're unfortunate enough to have to make a local delivery, or break down there. Best of luck. 10-4?
